Book Review: Opposition (Lux novel #5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

I have to say, I’m super excited about posting this book review, since this has been one of my favorite series of all time, since book 1! I literally counted down the days until this final novel in the series was released and am uber happy I finally had time to sit down and read it! 🙂

Ok, onto the review! Opposition is the 5th and final book in The Lux Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout. I was first turned on to this series by my husband (yes, you read that right!) who had stumbled upon it last summer and recommended I read it, too. It centers around Katy, the new girl in town who moves next door to the school ‘hottie’ who eventually pulls her from her reclusive ways. She immediately discovers something ‘off’ about Daemon (super hottie guy) and his sister Dee. Is it any surprise that she finds out they are actually aliens from outer space? (Named the Luxen, hence the title of the series ;)) No, no it is not. Because these are the awesome novels I would be drawn to and can’t seem to put down! Teenage aliens with lots of drama and romance! Love it! Oh yeah, she also discovers Daemon is an identical twin to Dawson, who has been kidnapped by the big, bad US government, so they can experiment on these visitors from outer space.

Fast forward through books 1-4, where romance blossoms (you knew it was coming!) and lots of running from government officials who want to keep these teens under lock and key. At the end of book 4 the unthinkable happens; the Luxen from outer space – different from the Luxen who have made a life on earth – arrive with the intent of taking over earth. Of course, right?

Book 5 opens with Daemon, Dawson and Dee having been brainwashed back into their Luxen clan, and Katy having all sorts of freak outs over how to get them back. The rest of the book is basically the ‘good’ Luxen trying to find a way to fight the ‘bad’ Luxen to save the earth. I’ll give you a hint: those big, bad government officials and the earth bound Luxen? Yeah, they gotta work together.

The short: Loved it! 4.5 stars.

The long: Ok, I’d totally give this thing a full 5 stars because, let’s be honest – I’ve loved the story line from the beginning, I love Ms. Armentrout’s writing style and this last book does not disappoint! It lost half a star for one simple reason – Daemon is way too… uhhh… excited, over Katy! Yes, they’ve been a couple for a few books now, and they did actually sort of get married in the last one, so I guess they were entitled to a little alone time. Except that it was so distracting that they had ‘done it’ 4 times by the time we were half way done the novel! Ugh. And one of them was when they only had a matter of days to save the earth and a thirty hour drive ahead of them. Get some self control kids!

Ok, with that out of the way, there’s not much more to add to this. The plot was fantastic, just as I would expect from Armentrout, and I couldn’t put this down – although I had no choice in the matter when it came to changing poopy diapers and making supper. But I got through it as fast as I could! The ending was nicely wrapped up, not too perfectly but well enough that you can move on without wondering what else may have happened in their lives and without wanting to yell at the author for killing off some major character or other.

So, there you have it. If you haven’t given this series a chance – which begins with ‘Obsidian’ – pick it up and read! You won’t be disappointed! 🙂 And all the earlier versions of the book (which were ebooks) have just been released in paper back, for you lovers of paper, out there! 🙂 Read them and leave a comment on what you thought of the series!

Happy reading, friends!
