I was appalled and dismayed to see that today is the last day of the month. This could have something to do with the fact that I lost about half the month to illness, dental emergencies and ER visits, but whatev, right? The fact of the matter is, March. Is. Over. Which means 2015 is one quarter over.
I can’t even. *blinks slowly*
When did that happen? And why does this keep happening faster and faster the older I get? (Not that I’m old, cause I’m not. I am merely a twenty year old trapped in a body twice it’s age. Stop laughing.)
So I woke up today and thought, ‘Wow, I should really review how I’ve been doing with those goals I set a few months back.’ Yeah. That’s something I’ve been avoiding, actually, since I’m a perfectionist and will never feel that I’m living up to the standard I’ve set. But writing is about being real, and being real is the only way I’m going to get better at writing, so here goes!
Goal: To write every day. Ok, this is on every single writer goal list. I know. And I’m here to say, I have not met this goal. Not even come close. But I know this is something that every writer struggles with, so I’m going to give myself grace and am climbing back on the bandwagon. Time to meet this goal for the rest of 2015!
Goal: Read each day. Um, yeah. Totally missed this, too. I love to read – what writer doesn’t? But some days this is just not realistic, either. But I’m trying and I have Goodreads to push me along and keep me accountable. Here’s to a renewed effort in that, as well.
Goal: Try to have 5 submissions out at a time. Yes! I am meeting this standard! But that may be because some agents take 3 months to respond so… I should probably revise this one. It does feel good to have submissions out there floating around, but I haven’t sent one in a full week. I should get on that.
Goal: Read 1 fiction book club novel, 1 fiction of my choice and 1 writing technique book, per month. I actually didn’t add this one until February, and I’m not too far off base on it. You may think, ‘Pah. Whatev. She’s a writer, she probably reads all the time.’ But, alas, I don’t. In fact I was shocked to see I had gone a few months in a row without finishing even one book. Occupational hazard, I guess. But I’m happy to say I’ve accomplished at least 2 of the three for Feb & Mar, and I’m almost done not one but two Writing Technique books, so I feel like I’m catching up! Score!
Goal: Write and submit 1 devotional per week. This is so much harder than I thought it would be. That is all I will say about that.
Goal: To receive 75 rejections this year. Well, I obviously won’t be able to reach this goal for at least 9 months yet. But I can say I’m at least on my way. As of this moment, I have exactly 4. Which isn’t 75, but it also is a start, so there. (You may be asking why I would want rejections and the simple answer is, if I get 75 rejections, then there’s a good chance at least someone will have given me a chance and said ‘yes’!)
So, there you have it. I do realize after this weekend that I think I want to add on another goal of ‘Attending X number of Writer’s Retreats or Conferences per year.’ I had 3 writing events in one weeks time and had a fantastic, encouraging time. Need to think on that one…
Where are you with your goals? What are you happy about accomplishing? Where have you fallen short? Feel free to leave a comment below! If there’s any way I can encourage you, let me know! 🙂
Happy reading, friends!
